Let the Sky Fall Shannon Messenger Books

Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger is a unique story involving mythology characters that control the weather. Vane lost his parents in a tornado when he was younger, while he was saved by a mysterious girl that haunts his dreams. Now she's interfering in his social life, but he isn't sure what's going on. She, Audra, shows herself to Vane and he's relieved that she is real. At the same time, he's confused about what she's telling him he is and what they have to do. Audra blames herself for the death of Vane's parents and her own father. Audra and Vane have to conquer the Stormwalkers and they have a limited amount of time to prepare. Their relationship goes for a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, but they learn to trust each other and build strength together. I give Let the Sky Fall 4 stars, for the first in a series that brings romance, action and fantasy together for a clean read!

Let the Sky Fall Shannon Messenger Books Reviews

Didn't you like that air joke?

I loved Shannon Messneger's book, Keeper of the Lost Cities, last year and have been anxiously awaiting her YA debut. Let the Sky Fall did not disappoint.
First, she started with a fresh new idea, Sylphs, or air elementals. I can just think of the one in Shakespeare's The Tempest. So Shannon got to create her own mythology, and she did a great job at it! The Slyphs each have their own wind and its own language (north, south, east, and west). Each has their own strength, but when Slyphs start sharing their languages, they realize theat it increases their powers exponentially. Soon people want to master all of the languages. Only the Westerlys refuse to share. They see the corruption of those seeking their gift, and are hunted and killed one family at a time as each family refuses to give in. Now Vale Weston is the last Westerly. Audra has spent ten years watching over him, trying to make amends for her part in his parents death. Now she must help him discover his heritage and be ready to fight because the fight is coming to them.
I loved Audra and Vane. I felt like I really got to know them as we got to hear the story from both points of view. Vane was snarky and funny, but could be serious and intense when he needed to be. Audra was kind of Katniss-like, strong and a little broken, but loyal. You'll find yourself cheering on her strength and anxiously awaiting the day when she finally lets someone else into her life. I also loved Vane's parents. Most of the time in these books the parents are absent. Vane's were not only present, but observant and concerned. Imagine that, parents who notice that their son is gone at 2 AM and confront him about it! They were believable and a good addition to the story.
The romance is full of angst (I love you, but I can't allow myself to), but Shannon Messenger carries it off. I loved the mystery, the mythology, and the hope that things would work out in the end. Let the Sky Fall is the first book in the series so there was no bow on the ending, but not a total cliffhanger either. I feel satisfied )
If you like fantasy, Let the Sky Fall is definitely worth a try.

I read Shannon's "Keeper of the Lost Cities" series first and enjoyed her writing style enough to give this one a try. It is also a very good adventure. The main players are well introduced and their character continues to build and grow throughout the books. The book held my interest from start to finish and I eagerly picked up book two to continue the adventure.
Since I have really enjoyed Messenger’s Middle Grade, Keeper of the Lost Cities series I was excited to try her Young Adult series Sky Fall. She has a thing for elves and this book is no exception. Audra is a sylphs, an air elemental, and the sworn guardian of Vane, a seventeen year old boy. Vane knows he survived a category five tornado that killed his parents when he was a child, but he has no memory of how or of the rest of his childhood. When a hasty mistake reveals their location to their enemies Audra is forced to materialize in Vane’s life and help him remember what he has forgotten. I was not as wowed by this story as I was by the Keeper of the Lost Cities books. The two series are complete contrasts. Where the world of the Lost Cities is bright and sparkling, the world of Sky Fall is a hot desert. The best thing about it is Vane. I cannot remember reading a more fully drawn teenage boy character in any book. His sarcastic remarks and hormonally driven behavior made me laugh out loud through the whole thing.
